An Aerobic Workout on the Court: Cooper Fitness Aerobic Tennis

The best aerobic workouts don’t always happen in the gym. Sometimes they happen outside the gym, sometimes in a recreational setting; other times in a competitive setting.

The Aerobic Tennis program at Cooper Fitness Center is designed to provide a quality cardio workout for groups of tennis players at all ages and skill levels, from beginner to competitive adult tennis.

“The goal of an aerobic tennis class at Cooper Fitness Center is to keep the players active,” said Corey Noel, Cooper Fitness Center Tennis Pro. “We keep them running around the court and hitting a lot of tennis balls.”

All that movement contributes to a number of physical benefits. Not only is tennis good for your body, it is also good for your mind and offers a number of psychological benefits as well.

Physical Benefits of Tennis

  • According to the United States Tennis Association, playing tennis will help you improve:
  • Aerobic fitness by burning fat and improving cardiovascular fitness
  • Anaerobic fitness through short, intense bursts of activity (similar to circuit or HIIT training)
  • Increase leg strength with starts and stops that build leg muscles
  • Improve gross motor control with movements requiring control of large muscle groups
  • Improve bone density and strength
  • Improve flexibility
  • Improve hand-eye coordination

Psychological and Social Benefits of Tennis

Tennis can help you get fit and stay fit, no matter your age or current fitness level, but exercise isn’t the sole benefit of the sport.

Many people who participate in our aerobic tennis classes do so because it offers a form of exercise that is very different from working out in the gym. Simply put, it’s fun!

Tennis also offers players the opportunity to learn teamwork and sportsmanship and develop discipline and a strong work ethic.
