DALLAS – (Dec. 5, 2016) – Cooper Aerobics

Cooper Aerobics President and CEO Tyler Cooper, MD, MPH, comments on the recent announcement from American Heart Association regarding the inclusion of aerobic fitness testing in annual physical exams:

We are very excited to see that the American Heart Association has announced aerobic fitness testing should be included in annual medical exams. We have been testing, validating and advocating this thesis for nearly 50 years. Aerobic fitness as a vital sign for both personal and public health in general is at the core of Cooper’s mission and of preventive medicine. The significant amount of research we’ve produced demonstrates the associated quality and quantity of life benefits.

In 2017 we are bringing a consumer-friendly application to the marketplace that measures fitness accurately and efficiently. CooperFit smart phone app is validated by our 50 years of science and research at the world-renowned Cooper Clinic and its scientific arm, The Cooper Institute®. Specifically, average annual health care costs are significantly lower (40%) for participants ages 65 years or older with high midlife fitness than with low midlife fitness in both men and women based on more than 126,388 person-years of follow-up.

We are pleased to work with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas on this innovative project. Our research has proven the benefits of fitness reducing risk of various cancers, heart disease and other chronic illnesses. Bringing fitness to the forefront is sure to have a positive impact on the health care crisis in our country today.
