Sleep Medicine Specialist Sonya Merrill, MD, PhD, FACP, Joins Preventive Medicine Clinic

DALLAS (July 26, 2022) – Cooper Clinic announces the addition of Sleep Medicine Physician Sonya Merrill, MD, PhD, FACP, to its preventive medicine services. Dr. Merrill joins Cooper from her solo private practice Dallas Sleep Medicine Specialists, PLLC. She leads the new Sleep Medicine practice at Cooper Clinic, providing comprehensive evaluation and management of sleep disorders, including overseeing and interpreting sleep studies and home sleep tests. “It is a pleasure to welcome Dr. Sonya Merrill to the Cooper Clinic team,” said Camron Nelson, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cooper Clinic. “Dr. Merrill’s expertise in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders allows us to expand our preventive medical offerings as sleep plays such an important role, yet is one of the most underrated aspects in our overall health.”

Sleep medicine services at Cooper Clinic are comprised of laboratory-based studies including overnight diagnostic, overnight CPAP titration and daytime sleep studies. In-home testing options are also available.

“Bringing sleep medicine to Cooper Clinic allows me to continue providing quality, unrushed care for patients with sleep disorders,” said Sonya Merrill, MD PhD, FACP. “It’s an honor to join the Cooper team to build a sleep center of excellence with a state-of-the-art sleep lab as my vision of patient care aligns with Cooper’s preventive focus. We know lack of sleep contributes to obesity, weakened immunity, a decrease in cognition and a number of other risk factors impacting people’s health.”

Dr. Merrill received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Wellesley College. She earned her Master of Arts in Medical Ethics and Law and a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of London. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School.
