Kenneth H. Cooper, MD, MPH Addresses European Union

Dallas (September 2, 2014) — The Cooper Institute® rolls out the Hungarian version of the Cooper International Fitness TestTM software known as NETFIT®, in Hungary at the three-day Hungarian International Conference on Physical Education on September 16 after signing a partnership agreement with the Hungarian School Sport Federation last year. Kenneth H. Cooper, MD, MPH, Founder and Chairman Emeritus of The Cooper Institute addresses the topic of childhood obesity before stakeholders of the European Union. The partnership was formed to establish a national framework for student fitness assessments in Hungary, reaching more than 1.2 million children in 4,000 schools. NETFIT was created with the principles of FITNESSGRAM®, which is administered to more than 22 million youth annually in over 65,000 schools across the United States. FITNESSGRAM is in 20 international locations, and is the official fitness assessment of the Presidential Youth Fitness Program.

“This partnership enables us to have a lasting impact in both countries but also create framework for software that can be adopted internationally,” said Laura DeFina, MD, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Cooper Institute. “Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, brought kids’ health and wellness to the forefront by making it one of his initiatives. If kids are healthy and active, they can achieve their maximum potential, which will impact their local communities, their countries, and the world.”

The Hungarian School Sport Federation also organized professional development for teachers and assistance to implement the assessment. In creating the Hungarian customized version of the Cooper International Fitness Test and its software, developers now have a template for use throughout the European Union.

“Our partnership with The Cooper Institute presents us with an opportunity to change kids’ health in Hungary and we will continue our work to create a better future with increased physical activity,” said Gábor Balogh, President of Hungarian School Sport Federation.

Cooper International Fitness Test, a robust and customizable fitness assessment software, is uniquely developed for participating countries. Each software package is tailored to meet the physical fitness and cultural needs of individual populations. Results enable countries to assess, educate, and report on health-related fitness levels to improve the wellbeing worldwide.
